I Wish We Could Do it All Again - By Amy and Karl
We met on Tinder back in 2014. Amy had just got back from 2 years in Australia and moved to London. Karl had been living in London for 15 years but had been single for the last 5 years. We dated for a few years and then moved in together, Karl is from South Africa so he took Amy there in 2016 to meet his family and popped the question on Camps Bay beach in Cape Town just after sunset. It’s fair to see he is the romantic one!
We didn’t really have a clue what type of venue we wanted so we set up appointments over two days for various different styles of venue (hotels, old manor houses, tipis etc) and Manor Hill House happened to be the first one that we went to and we fell in love with it. We did go to see a couple of others but then we decided to follow our gut instinct and booked Manor Hill the following day.
Our colour theme was royal blue, I was conscious of the time of year (we got married in October) so wanted something that would suit that. We got lanterns from the venue to decorate the marquee ceiling which were amazing. Apart from that all we really had were the flowers and my sister made us some pom poms that tied in with the colour theme too.
I got my wedding dress from a shop in Olton called Lisa Rose Bridal. It is in an old church and the most lovely little shop. I knew I wanted something that was a line, relatively plain with straps and I found the perfect dress here along with my veil. The bridesmaid dresses were from a shop called RZ bridal in Sparkhill, we had discovered this shop for my friends wedding years before and are now regular customers! They do an amazing arrange of dresses and the best thing is you can get them all in any colour (they have hundreds of swatches) We love this place and would highly recommend it. The men hired their suits from Moss Bros and went with grey tails.
The food was all amazing, sticky fig did an incredible job! The favourites probably being the lamb shoulder and the crème brulee. I also loved how they let me have my own chocolate brownie for pudding even though every one had crème brulee as I am a chocoholic! We also had canapes and made biltong for our favours for Karls South African roots.
Sticky Fig also did a naked cake for us which was amazing. Our flowers were done by Bella Lilly flowers who had done my sisters wedding flowers and she is brilliant. I stole my photographer also from my sisters wedding – Jonathan Coates who was great too.
For our entertainment we went with DJ Chris Smith that the venue recommended. I really had my heart set on a band but the budget didn’t stretch quite far enough for that and in hindsight I am actually glad as Chris was amazing. He was there all day and the evening music was great, the dance floor was always packed and it couldn’t have been better!
All of the speeches were very funny and emotional and will always stick in my mind. And definitely my sisters rap to the Fresh Price of Bel Air in the evening was a highlight
There are so many photographs to choose from to pick a favourite! The group picture is a lovely memory from the day and there are some gorgeous couple shots that we got in the beautiful surrounding fields plus some of the evening dancing photos are hilarious!
Our advise to other couples would be to keep an open mind and trust your gut instincts when you see the right place you will know! Listen to the experts they do this for a living and try to take time just the two of your on the day to sit back and look around you. It absolutely flies by, I wish I could do it all over again!
